2010 David Caligiuri Memorial Award

Dedication, Courage and Fighting Spirit

The annual David Caligiuri Memorial Award is dedicated to honour the memory of David Caligiuri who passed away in 1997. David was 16 years old when he won a bronze medal at the 1997 Junior Canadian National Judo Championships. David’s parents, Tony and Gail Caligiuri, and his sister Leslie support Judo Manitoba in awarding an annual scholarship to a promising athlete who displays positive citizenship skills, judo talent, courage, fighting spirit, and a dedication to the sport of judo in Manitoba.

Mr. Moe Oye, who was David Caligiuri’s sensei at the University Of Manitoba Judo Club, presented a cheque for $200.00 to this year’s winner, Julien Mitchell of the Selkirk Judo Club. The award ceremony took place in La Broquerie, Mb. on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at the Eastern Manitoba Judo Open.
