2010 EDMONTON INTERNATIONAL: Coaches please review the entry for the Edmonton International. If you have U20 and U17 woman who are at a good level (Blue & above) you should ensure that they also compete in the Senior Woman’s divisions. If you have a U20 male who is a brown or black belt it is very important that they compete in the senior divisions. It is very important that the senior weight divisions have eight or more athletes. There is still time to enter athletes ! http://www.edmontonjudo.com/

The 2010 Winter Olympics
I hope everyone was inspired by the great performance of the Canadian team at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. The great performances of Canadian athletes is the goal of all Canadian sports developmental models and is one of the main goals of thechanges to the Canadian sport system as outlined in theLTADM.(Long Term Athlete Developmental Models)
It is important to remember that all coaches are part of the process of Olympic performances and that it is very important to develop the best judo program possible for all athletes that you come in contact with. The next Olympic gold medalist might be walking into your judo club today and it is important that you are prepared to set them on the correct pathway of development and physical literacy. The LTADM has been created to help coaches develop programs that are safe, effective, efficient and enjoyable with a focus on developing athletes that can perform at the highest level of competition.
Judo Canada is at the beginning of this process; we are just starting to implement the LTADM and a lot of hard work has been put into this program. It is important to read the information that has been developed and work at improving yourself as a coach. The LTADM is not the law but it is to be used as a frame work to help develop an athlete; to help take them from day one topotentially... anOlympic Champion.Judo Canada recognizes thatat this time there are very few judo clubs that will be able tofullyimplement the Judo Canada LTADM,butwe also know thatif you use the information as a frame work to develop your judo program youmay be surprised with the positive response you get from the participants. So far,all who did, have only positive experiences.
Judo in Canada has not produced an Olympic Championyetandour best athletes do not deliverconsistent podium performances at the world and Olympic level. The goal of the LTADM is togive our judoka a better fighting chance todothis but they need the help of all the judo clubs and judo coaches in Canada. Canada has talent; Judo Canada has talent; we need to improve!Change is a positive force so let'snot build walls up againstitand lets build a bridge that bringsbetterperformance. Have an open mind; and open heart and realize that.....the next Olympic Champions can be walking in your doors today.
Please give the LTADM a chance; read it; believe in it and see how some of the ideas will work with your judo program.
As much as I enjoy Canada winning medals in other sports; I love winning medals in our sport! If a Canadian Judo athlete wins a medal we are all connected and are all part of this medal!
